Technical Services: Acquisitions and Cataloguing

The Office of Technical Services is responsible for the development, organization and control of documents in all the IAC collections. Basically, this office is in charge of the selection, acquisition, information analysis, preparation and preservation of materials. Also, this Office is responsible for the entry and processing of bibliographical information in the “Workflows” Catalogue System.

Our personnel is in charge of making the necessary processes to select, buy or receive book donations, materials and other resources that will eventually be placed at the disposition of entire university community in the IAC.

The acquisition, cataloguing and classification of the material is done by professional librarians, while specialized support personnel provide help with tasks that complement the process of entry for all new resources. Faculty members contribute with the goals of this office by submitting recommendations for the acquisition of books and other materials.

Once the Technical Services Office has finished these processes, the bibliographical record of the particular resource is made available to users through the Internet (http://cai.inter.edu) either from the computer stations laboratory (B-141) in the IAC, from any computer in the Bayamón Campus or from outside the campus via remote access.
